Marae Design

Fletcher Flax lives in a house inspired by Maori Marae.

This is the original picture I drew of it:

As there are scenes in the pilot of the interior of the house, I need to plan what that will look like.

That was just off the top of my head so might change but I feel good about it. Marae interiors are usually very open and empty. I would want to keep to a minimal layout and design.

At the moment the bathroom is inside behind screens but perhaps I could make it an out-house instead. This will free up space and make it more open.
I see Fletcher sleeping on a low to the ground bed like how people sleeping in a marae just use a mattress.

I think the outside will change the most after looking at real Maraes.

These images will be handy for getting scale right.

I found out some Maraes diverge from the traditional shape I'm used to, which is interesting.

The Bluff one in particular is fascinating as inside it is very colourful. I've never seen that before in a marae.

But I think I will stick to a traditional design for the outside for recognition. The inside will have the support poles and be very open plan but no intricate details.

Next I'll need to think about his shed, flying machine, and backyard.

Edit: I don't know why some images are broken :(

Research Questions

I have a main research question that I want to do:

How can I optimise the 2D character design and rigging workflow process in Toon Boom Harmony for a cartoon pilot?

I also have a back up one just in case:

How can I communicate a positive relationship between cartoon fairies and the New Zealand environment through style and edutainment?
