Screen Printing 2

I'm testing the drawing fluid method of screen printing now.

I'm going to let this dry then put on the screen filler tomorrow and then print in the weekend.

Speedball tutorial:

Update 2/9

I've now put on the screen filler and cleaned out the drawing fluid but the result is not very clean. I predict the stencil isn't going to be that great and this method works best with big thick lines. I definitely chose the wrong design for it.

we'll see what the prints look like. I need to buy some more shirts.

Sound

I've added a basic scratch track onto my visual novel video. I think it sounds pretty good. It's certainly difficult to find the right sounds and music.

Embroidery Logo

This is the logo that will hopefully work for embroidery:

Mock up on a beanie:

It took so long to finish and get the masking working in Illustrator D:

If this logo doesn't work then it'll be ok just being black text.

Fastest Flyer

There's been a switch up to how I should layout this mini game so it will work. I'm not entirely sure how yet, coding is difficult.

Instead of having the background scrolling, the camera will be the parent to Fletcher and will move along the map to the finish. Fletcher will be at one end and only be able to move up and down using the mouse.
This is so when he hits an obstacle the camera will be told to slow down or pause which means Kahu will keep going to the finish.

Kahu is now on his own animation path to the finish line, unaffected by the obstacles.

I've gotten the text triggers to come up but now it's a case of stopping Kahu if Fletcher wins and vice versa.

Sun Collector Game

I followed the 2D UFO tutorial and made this version of it:

I worked in Unity but it didn't want to build because of script errors even though it didn't tell me it had errors and worked when I played it??

Weird. I liked the rotating effect on the cloud pick ups which was coded onto them.

Supervision 27/8

I'm glad Ruth liked Transition's new layout and my t-shirts.
It was good going over what to show in the exhibition and discussing what I should show on the projector and stuff. I will rearrange the wall of the characters and bring in more stuff that represents them and what's most important for the audience to know.
Scale was mentioned and I'm still not sure what to do there exactly but it might come through on the projector.

I came up with another ad idea with my sisters to advertise the tshirts. I imagine this ad to be more casual and at Queens Park. I'll wait for a nice sunny day and I'll do more shirts for it.
I just googled tshirt ad and this one came up
https://youtu.be/71zcxOu9FYU
I could get my sisters to do a little dance and have the shirts switch or something.

this warehouse one is kinda cool but simple

this has a cool reverse effect

First Screenprinting!

This is the design I stenciled:

On Saturday I prepared my screen with my template paper cut out for my first screen printing.

Getting ready to print on Sunday night:

I bought these shirts from Just Incredible $2 shop for $4 each. They're really nice quality and a good range of colours.

I got my sisters to pick the shirts they want.

A pic of my first ever print!

I have some videos of my process that I'll edit together soon.

These are the finished shirts! I've ironed the ink so should be washable now (though I wouldn't recommend too many)

Because it was a stencil, I went in and painted over the gaps to make the letters whole on the shirts.

Here's me wearing one! I'm excited for my sisters to wear theirs :)

The next type of print I'm going to do is the drawing fluid technique with the all three plants image.

Fastest Flyer

I've been looking at scripts and trying to apply things from online tutorials to my minigame. It's very difficult! I have been able to get Fletcher to move around by using the mouse and constraining it to the camera borders.

Character Design

These are my character designs from my STAR class today:

Invercargill Game Developers

It was a great meet up on Thursday for this new club. I'm looking forward to talks about business and legal stuff but also the potential for a game-jam next year. I joined a bunch of groups about games on fb which might be good to show my stuff on to get some feedback sometime.

Last night I started working on a potential logo for the group and here's my process:

I was inspired by the knew Invercargill logo and the 'd pad' on a game controller
The colour scheme was difficult, I tried to take the colours from the big poster in town but they were quite bright and clashy for my liking.
I was tempted by the blue and then went through different types of text:

I mocked up some stuff the logo could go on. I guess it's merch but not really. The font I went with is called Kickflip and I thought the grey and dark blue was the best colour scheme.

I've put it into Illustrator and perfected the shapes and circles and text:

Logo Designs

Last Friday I was doing some logo designs for my potential animation/production/creation company:

I don't know what colours I like yet. I am drawn to the black and purple. I like the design a lot especially with the underlying NZ-ness of the koru.
I put creation in the thesaurus and one of the synonyms are contrivance which means:

contrivance
kənˈtrʌɪv(ə)ns/
noun
  1. 1.
the use of skill to create or bring about something, especially with a consequent effect of artificiality.
"the requirements of the system, by happy chance and some contrivance, can be summed up in an acronym"
    synonyms:schemestratagemtacticmanoeuvremove, course/line of action, planploygambitdevicewileMore
  2. 2.
a device, especially in literary or artistic composition, which gives a sense of artificiality.
"the often tiresome contrivances of historical fiction"

Contrivance as a company name could be cool as it would encompass a bunch of creative stuff that the company could do like animations and cartoons and games and clothes and films etc.

Well feedback that I got from that was a bit negative. It's hard to think of names :(

My old ideas was Corkscrew Cartoons but I've gone off that, especially being specific about cartoons as I'd want my company to include and produce more than just that.

Printing on Transparent

I now know how to print on my transparent plastic film.

I did print on the old printers so I might print another copy of each on the newer printers to make sure the black is fully black.

I've also got all my Speedball stuff from Spotlight which I'm excited to use. I think I'll use my plants for the tests as I'm not too worried about having those as crisp. I'll use the painting or stencil technique.

This is the image I'm going to test with first:

2D Tiling

Yesterday made a tiny game by using the tile palette editor thing.

I then used this playlist to help me code the jump and respawn and camera movement stuff:

Visual Novel Organisation

Today I organised my visual novel in storyboard pro better in proper scenes. I will next mock up the other scenes and endings.
After will be making up the actual expressions of each character and putting them in.
The true end video will need to be finished for the third exhibition which will play in the game room.

Here's the true end story at the moment:

Insect Warrior

I'm thinking about doing the Insect Warrior character design challenge with a native NZ insect like maybe a weta.
I used quickposes.com to sketch some poses that came up:

I've also found this random drawing idea generator:

Story Organising

Plans for the other endings and how to connect them up:

I'll be putting them in storyboard Pro

Even More Backgrounds

Finished backgrounds:

All backgrounds are now finished!

Couch!

I've found a couch at Habitat and the lovely people will delivery it to don st on Monday.
I didn't even know they had a student discount for 10% and free delivery. Would have been handy for my table but now I know.
Update: 20/8 got my couch today :)

I've also got Spotlight to ship in my speedball materials I've ordered. These packs will give me a heads up on screen printing. Peter's classes for those are the week we get back from break on Tuesday at 9am downstairs. I'm excited for those. This does mean I would like to try my own first before then that will be ready for
I want to test and see if I can print on my overhead projector clear plastic. I can't quite remember how to do it. Something about choosing use tray. I'll ask Rachel on Wednesday in transmedia.

I've also rearranged Transition to how I'd like the next exhibition to be.

New Logo

I've tweaked the old Monarch Park logo so it's more centered:

I'm not sure which version I like better. Possibly the second one so the words are clearer without Hilda's legs.

I'm looking at potentially getting a cap with Monarch Park on it.
This site has been helpful on telling me what kind of embroidery there is:
https://www.printful.com/blog/custom-embroidered-hats-guide-to-creating-a-design-and-embroidery-file/

I mocked up the cap:

This is ready to go in an eps file for iCue.
I'm not working on a potential beanie logo.
