They don't play them very often and haven't play many varieties that we don't have at home. They would like to play more board games.
They both like snakes and ladders a lot. The competitiveness, rolling a dice, fun.
Snakes & Ladders is pretty simple. It took about 10 mins to finish a game.
We didn't have any of the original play pieces so we picked out lego characters to use which was fun. The directions on the board need to be clearer and there's always an issue of remembering where the players last were. That would then create arguments and lying which is funny in the moment but not something that would be good to promote. Can't deny that snakes and ladders is fun but it certainly requires no thought and winning is only chance.

Space Race took about 10 mins to finish also. It's a bit different to snakes and ladders but same idea of a dice doing the only decision making. But I like the variety of space instructions, though some redundant. I also like the 'flavour' of the game, that it stuck to it's theme and referenced it on the board and through the pieces and spaces. I think, ironically, the board needed a bit more space on each space. But it's fun and requires some reading at least.
The sister game to this was Around the World and it wasn't as nicely thought out in my opinion and didn't take long to finish because of the luck of the dice. The board was laid out nicer with arrows telling you where to go.

The Bratz game is still one of my favourites that we own. It has a spinner instead of a dice that has many options on it that requires more thinking and strategising. There's rules in order to finish and tasks to complete and does require some explaining in order to get how to play and win. I like the design of the board and the spinner options but it does have a TERRIBLE font, barely legible. I like that you can pick out of a few characters to play.

I had this game in mind from the start when thinking about making my own board game. I think picking the good parts and incorporating some aspects of the other games could make my game unique.
I like the idea of having the characters names underneath. I think I'll also take note of the shape around the characters compared to what I tried to do last week.
