A long process of making the buttons only appear when they need to be.
I used the animator and animation and lots of duplications. Not fun.
I'm gonna hide some stuff that I haven't gotten working yet and build the game to take down to transition for Monday.
Also I'm not even going to be there after 12 cos fitness time oops.
Welp there are errors that are not letting me build my damn game. It's all script errors that dont tell me they're errors in monodevelop so idk what to do. Guess I'll wait for class.
well class didnt help. I went home and downloaded unity which took an age. But I was able to build the first version my damn game.
It'd be nice to try and get Fastest Flyer more finished but idk if it'll work. Also a saving feature but I'd have to find the right tutorials.
I went in and exported each element on their own so I could put a little animation on them.
I've also made all the buttons in the whole game animate when hovered over.
Plus I've made a custom mouse cursor! Thanks to this video, the first technique:
It was cool getting feedback from a couple other artists.
List to do:
Lower my projection so it's not as dark.
Grab fake grass and mannequin from G3
Lamp in the game room.
Green coloured lamp somewhere?
have some of the fairy lights flashing
stickers along the walls
print out bigger poster for the RAW gallery easel
Editing done! It was hard but fun. The adjustment layer is super handy! I'm also glad I chose to do it in Premiere Pro, the snapping was key. Also colour coordinating the clips was handy too.
The quality isn't great and in hind sight the shirts aren't even very close to see properly but oh well.
I'm imagining shirts changing at each clap noise. But a lot of footage will be determined on the day, probably jumping off things or on the playground or something. I'll try make up a short dance routine with claps in it in time of the music.
All my videos and scenes in unity and they all link to each other
I wanna put some music on the main menu and maybe some animations.
the buttons just have to only show up when they're supposed to. I think I might do that with the animator? idk yet.
Doing saves and loads would be good.
volume setting.
I think I might need to get rid of text speed..
I printed a few Invercargill Game Developers shirts
I mixed blue and black ink to create the darker blue colour. It was really hard to print them and each section. They're far from perfect! But I like them a lot.
I haven't ironed them yet.
It is annoying that the plane does fire when you click the menu but idk how to fix that.
I also need to find out how to make these on the screen first and have the game pause first until you press play.
I also still need to see if I can find anything with how to use sliders. I'm gonna predict that I won't be able to do it but idk yet.
maybe I'll be able to modify this? https://youtu.be/bcvLM_riVuw at least for Kahu
I still need to probably put my other stuff in there. but idk how yet.
I think I will put in the videos as scenes and have the buttons at the end go to each different part. Then the game ones will need to have buttons that have triggered from those. Or maybe just automatically change to the different scene idk.
I printed the red and yellow first sections first because I had to create the purple colour I wanted. Then I made the purple and printed it on.
Twas a bad idea.. all the colours didn't work very nicely on the black shirt. I think they need to be mixed with white. Or potentially printed with white first and then colour over top.
the purple is decent-ish because of the white ink that was mixed in it.
It was also very difficult to line up Hilda's section with the others.
Lots of ink needs to be used because there has to be enough for only ONE pull down to get the wings to show up.
It looked pretty good on white paper though.
the yellow and red did start mixing together.
I think I'll cut out some of the good ones and stick it onto their character walls.
I painted on the shirt with normal paints to bring the colours out better. Gotta remember to NEVER wash it!
I changed how kahu was flying from an animator to this follow path code.
Now he's going up and down.
Rambling Notes:
should I also put it on the moving leaves? making them not prefabs? or just never apply
I still dont know what's wrong with the plants and their colliders.
the fix in paper plane throw was to make both colliders not 2D ones. but that shouldn't matter here?
I think I'll need to flag the bottom tracker thing. unless i find a video tutorial somewhere but idk where. I thought maybe racing games would have it but i haven't found any yet. It annoys me because it must be possible but i cant find anything saying how.
it also seems that I'll have to keep fletcher being able to go everywhere, when the x position is taken away he locks to his original position. i dont really care at this point, it does mean if the game screen is smaller than the computer he will disappear if the mouse is outside of the game window. again, i dont care. it'll give the illusion of working if the player isnt stupid (i know i should assume they are tho)
I still need to put on the slow the camera scroll speed down when he enters plant tags, which i assume will go on the scrolling object script?
whoever wins could get a link on the text button to the next video they have to go to. fletcher's win just triggers the end card and link to play again.
I'll need to make a website, or have it on the monarch park website on a hidden page.
I need to make a pause menu, and back button.
coding is disgusting. I dont mind writing it from a tutorial but having to problem solve and figure out how to apply stuff to other things is doing my head in. I hardly understand any of it.
Had a chat with Ryan and it seems I will need to put a script on each option in the paper plane throw. mainly cos idk how tags work.
I did screen printing this morning and learnt some things! My band print showed up better when it's just one pull, the wings show up. It also might have been the textile ink. The big rubber squeegees are also so much better to use, and the bigger tables.
My shirts look awesome :)
I still want to get some new colours like a green for this and a red, yellow, and purple for the band print which will go on black shirts.
Lucy was kind enough to give me a screen printing book that the SIT library gave her for free. She said she has a couple others too.
In the video game room, I need to find a nicer desk around somewhere and a better chair maybe. I want to put up more posters.
To hopefully get more people visit, I'm very lucky to have this sandwich board to advertise when Transition is open for viewing.
I think I'll also stick up stickers of my fairies around the arcade, making a trail to transition from RAW. I'm not sure what I should put up in RAW to entice people over but it needs my hours and to say it's only a minute walk away.
I've cut up all the visual novel videos and uploaded them to my YouTube channel unlisted. Each one has videos at the end linking to the others in the story. The viewer chooses which video to watch next and that determines which ending they'll get.
I will make the first video public when I've tested it all.
It doesn't link to the minigames yet as those are unfinished. At the moment the only option is for Kahu to win the race.
The rules for the end cards are:
videos have to be 25 seconds minimum
the cards are on for a minimum of 5 seconds
annotations dont even exist anymore.
the thumbnails of the videos show up
