I modeled the piece in Maya then it was printed.
A bit small to start:

Then at a decent size, but the machine did not do the face very smooth:

I think I need to remodel the piece so it will be smooth. There's no point beveling the edge or any indents at this size.
Update 7/5:

This game piece is so much smoother after I simplified the model. There are still some bumps but I think it'll work. The size is a bit smaller than the previous test. I think I like this size a lot and fits in with normal board games.
Next step is to measure the size exactly and print the characters on sticky paper and stick them on. I need to decide whether I want to have two fronts or front and back on the pieces.
Two fronts will be easier but a front and back lets the player know where they are going on the board.
I do also need to think about the game I want to make. I need to go through my games box at home and discuss with my sisters what games they like to play and what parts they prefer and dislike. I definitely want to look at the Bratz game, the space game, classic snakes and ladders.
Maybe looking up places that print board games in NZ and packs of cards. Surely there's places that could do that on the cheap. It would be super cool to have a Monarch Park themed pack of cards.
